Still getting lots of questions about Benghal dayflower (the artist formerly known as tropical spiderwort) in harvested corn fields. The main goal of post-harvest treatments is to prevent additional seed-rain which will help management programs in subsequent rotational crops. Remember that a Benghal dayflower plant can go from seed to seed in about 42 days. It has been my experience that it will take 2 herbicide applications (7-10 days apart) to control Benghal dayflower at this time of year due to its size/stage (usually 12" tall or taller and flowering). 3) A new Group 14 burndown herbicide from Valent (Empera - epyrifenacil) that should be available in 2027. Culpepper and I will likely discuss this newer herbicide in detail at the upcoming weed science agent training in December.
